A councilorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party and several other persons were allegedly attacked by suspected hoodlums at Ogor community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the hoodlums in their hundreds invaded the community Town Hall where the PDP was holding their campaigns for the forthcoming local government election in the state.
According to sources, “The councilorship candidate of the PDP, Chief Emmanuel Osiokpo was seriously injured by the thugs suspected to be loyalists of other political parties in community.
“When the PDP campaign train arrived at the community Town Hall, the thugs armed with dangerous weapons attacked and everybody has to run for their safety.
Contacted one of the victims and candidates Chief Emmanuel Osiokpo said, I was separating people that were fighting and in that process, the youth chairman of Ogor mobilized the youths that attacked me.
“Before I knew it, I was hit with an object and I find myself on the ground with blood gushing out of my head and I was rushed to hospital for treatment. I am yet to recover I talking to you from my hospital bed”. He said.
A chieftain of the party who confirm the incident on anonymous condition disclosed that “Youths in their large numbers disrupted the campaign and as law abiding citizens and party faithful we have to maintain peace”.
